For Sweet Treats by C, baking has always been more than a business, it’s a passion that started with family and friends and expanded into the community.
Owner Chelsea grew up baking alongside her nanny and her mom, developing both her skills and her sweet tooth from a young age. What started as sharing homemade treats with friends quickly turned into something much bigger. After creating a Facebook page and receiving more and more orders from the community, Sweet Treats by C began to grow.
“I always loved baking,” says Chelsea. “My friends wanted to try some, then people started ordering, and it kind of just blew up from there.”
From home kitchen to storefront
Before launching Sweet Treats by C, Chelsea worked as an architectural metal technician. After injuring her wrist and spending time at home, she found herself baking more often, testing recipes, and sharing her creations online. Orders began coming in, and what started as a passion project soon became a full business.
Sweet Treats by C has now been operating for five years, with each year bringing something new. From getting her home kitchen certified to collaborating with local businesses like Elpida Café & Roastery, Chelsea has continued to grow the business step by step. This year marks another exciting milestone: the opening of the Sweet Treats by C storefront.
A business built in Georgina
For Chelsea, opening a business in Georgina felt natural. Having grown up in the community and lived here her whole life, she already had strong local connections and an appreciation for the people who call Georgina home.
The support from the community has been one of the most meaningful parts of the journey. Customers come in not only for fresh baked goods, but also to support a local business that supports others. Sweet Treats by C carries and collaborates with other local businesses whenever possible, creating a space that reflects the spirit of community. Chelsea says “People here are so good about supporting local.”
Local Flavour and Fresh Favourites
Sweet Treats by C is known for indulgent, made-with-care treats that keep customers coming back. Some of the most popular items include apple fritters, cinnamon buns, and gourmet donuts in creative flavours like cheesecake and funnel cake.
Chelsea’s personal favourite is the cinnamon bun, a treat she says she could happily eat every day.
Local collaboration is also an important part of the business. Sweet Treats by C uses Hiveshare honey when honey is needed in recipes and has collaborated with Elpida Café & Roastery for coffee. Chelsea also has plans to connect with other local producers, adding more Georgina-grown touch to the bakery’s most-loved items.
More than a bakery
The storefront is designed to be welcoming for the whole community, including families with children. Inside, visitors will find a kids’ corner where little ones can play, as well as a book nook where customers can take a book or leave a book.
Sweet Treats by C has also become a familiar name at local events and markets. Over the years, the business has participated in events such as Clearwater Farm markets, Music in the Streets, the Mystic Market, and Canada Day collaborations with Elpida Café & Roastery. This year, Chelsea is focused on growing the storefront while continuing to take part in some of the community events that have helped shape the business.
Looking ahead
As Sweet Treats by C continues to grow, Chelsea hopes to one day expand into a larger location, offer more days of operation, and eventually add a trailer for events, allowing fresh treats to be made on-site for customers.
For now, the focus is on building the storefront, adding new offerings like cold drinks and cold brew, and continuing to create a space where people feel welcome.
Sweet Treats by C is a true example of a local business grown from passion, hard work, and community support. Stop in for an apple fritter, a cinnamon bun, or a gourmet donut, and experience a business that is proudly rooted in Georgina.
