Two years ago, Claudio Macri and Patricia Ramos moved to Jackson’s Point from Richmond Hill. They regularly went on walks that would take them along Lake Drive East. Patricia and Claudio would never have guessed the restaurant located at 928 Lake Drive E., which they walked by daily, would one day become theirs. “We wanted to open up a restaurant here eventually but we were thinking in three to four years,” says Claudio. 

Why Georgina? According to Silver Manor Homes president Anthony Arci, it was the views of the lake. “When I drove to Georgina, I could envision myself living there.”

It all began when the founders of ADR Pet Stores, Ryan and Jen Radley, switched their beloved fur babies, Thor and Orpheus, to a raw diet. Caroline Mulroney, MPP for York-Simcoe, announced that the Town of Georgina will receive up to $150,000 in funding through the latest intake of the Rural Economic Development program (RED).

Stephen Faudemer, the owner of We Print T-shirts, took the reins of this Georgina-based printing business from friends and neighbours back in 2019. What began as a modest home-based venture has since blossomed into a thriving medium-sized operation, boasting an expanded product line, commercial space and increased revenue.

Georgina’s partnership with the Town of East Gwillimbury and York University’s YSpace has been wildly successful, supporting many businesses in the initial stages of their entrepreneurship journey and those looking for assistance to expand or grow their business. The best part is that it has all been free to the participants thanks to financial support from the partnership and the Province’s Rural Economic Development grant program.

Since 2016, the Town has annually recognized businesses and families rooted in Georgina for generations through the Mayor and Council's Milestone Awards. This year, the spotlight is on businesses with more than two decades of operation. These businesses serve as dedicated ambassadors for Georgina, intricately woven into the community's fabric, fostering enduring connections and contributing to Georgina's reputation as a thriving business hub.
